River Sailing Tour

alaarriba1pA natural, historical and touristic River Sailing Tour made in an ancient replica of the traditional boat "água-arriba", which in bygone days was the largest river-boat transporting people, animals and goods along the Lima River, between Viana do Castelo and Ponte da Barca, when there were no cars and vans.

Being difficult to manoeuvre, with about 14 meters long, the "água-arriba" has long been abandoned and only recently recovered, representing an intervention of great importance of the Ribeira-Lima ethno-fluvial heritage.

This is a type of shallow draft vessel, with flat bottom, made in wood from the region and locally built. Despite its modern auxiliary motor, it is moved as in former times by "long pole and sail", as well as by the power of the tidal current.

A quiet, and bucolic river sailing tour, legally authorised to carry a party of 19 people.

Ala Arriba

It is anchored in the old Lanheses pier, on the Way to St. James, near secular river crossing that became known as Lugar da Passagem, from Geraz do Lima to Lanheses and vice versa.

The legend of the River of Forgetfulness, and the stories of the people of its banks will be told by the voice of our experienced boatman.

You can also observe and identify several species of birds that inhabit this magnificent natural setting and enjoy the marvellous surrounding landscape.
