The Paço de Lanheses is inhabited by the countess of Almada and her sons, widow of the 6th Count of Almada and 18th Count of Avranches, representative of the family of the first proprietor João Martins Ricalde, Basque Noble from the 16th century

 

A 5 escudos bill from the Bank of Portugal, with the picture of D. Álvaro Vaz de Almada, noble from the 15th Century, ordered knight of the Garter and Count of Avranches in Normandy, by Henry VI of England for his services in the 100 Year's War.

D. Antão Vaz de Almada, one of his descendents, assembled forty nobles and leaded the revolt that in 1640 determined Portugal's independence, after 60 years of Spanish domain.
